Editor’s Impressions: Balloon Fight (NES)

I have finally come to grips that Ballon fight is not truly original, as it pays homage to the Atari arcade classic Joust. The game play in both titles is quintessentially the same. However, Balloon Fight brings more to the table than just solid well established game play. The game refines the game mechanics and also improves the look of a simple arcade game. The fact that the quality animation (not graphics) gives the game a smooth flowing looks makes Balloon Fight simply fun to watch.
Maintaining the trend of simultaneous multiplayer makes the game even crazier. Being able play both co-op and head-to-head adds depth to the multiplayer mode. I’m finding myself inviting friends over to play Balloon fight multiplayer style. They call me crazy for playing outdated video game, but then always want to play them. Balloon fight takes a very simple concept with tride and true game play, and comes up with something fresh fun.
