First Preview: Hang On (SMS)

Sega’s effort to bring the arcade gaming experience to your living room is easily seen through this ported version of Hang On for the Master System. Designed by Yu Suzuki and put out by Sega, this game is a bold statement saying that arcade games can be done on a home console platform and can be done well. Aside from graphical differences, the mechanics of Hang On are intact.

The title worthy hang on mechanic allowing the player to grip the track on curved sections which saves one from veering off the race track. For no one who has played the arcade version of Hang On, it is a motorcycle racing game.

Rather than pausing in between levels or tracks, the end of one level transitions into the next stage seamlessly and notifies the player with “extended play” on screen. There is a time limit for the game while in play.

If the player runs out of time then the game ends and tallies up your score (accumulated through how far you’ve traveled). Stay tuned for there will some more coverage on this Sega classic.
